Search and questions
Find notes with ⌘K, or ask your notes a question and get an answer with sources.
One palette
⌘K opens the palette. It searches your notes by title and content, runs commands, and jumps between places. Press ⌘K again or Esc to close it.
Search is full text over title and Markdown content, using SQLite FTS5 on your Mac. It works offline, without AI and without a provider. Prefixes narrow the palette:
| Prefix | Shows |
|---|---|
> | commands only |
# | tags |
? | ask my notes |
The CLI offers the same search: kajero search <terms> --workspace <slug>; see CLI and MCP.
Ask your notes
Start the input with ? and write a question. Kajero reads the notes it needs and answers with sources.
↑and↓choose a source,↵opens it;1to3open source number n directly.⌘↵continues the answer as a chat in the AI sheet, with the question, the answer and its sources.- Asking needs a chat model. Without a connected provider the
?prefix is not offered. See AI providers.
Only the notes the answer needs are sent to your provider, and Kajero shows which ones. A local model in Ollama sends nothing off your Mac.
Chat and inline AI
⌘⇧J toggles the chat sheet, about this note or across your workspace (change the default in Settings › AI). ⌘J runs AI on the current paragraph: improve, fix grammar, shorten, expand, change tone, summarize, continue writing.
Results arrive as suggestions marked inline. Nothing in your note changes until you accept: ⌥↵ accepts the current one, ⌥⌫ rejects it, ⌥⇧↵ and ⌥⇧⌫ take all.
Every AI change is stored as a revision before it applies, so version history can bring the old text back.
