Getting started
Download Kajero, install it and write your first note.
Kajero is a note-taking app for macOS. Your notes live on your Mac, AI is optional and runs on your own account.
Download and install
- Download the latest build for macOS from the download page. The file is a
.dmg. - Open the
.dmgand drag Kajero into Applications. - Start Kajero. The build is signed and notarized, so macOS opens it without a warning.
Kajero needs macOS 13 Ventura or later. Updates arrive through the app.
First run
A new install opens a short setup instead of an empty window:
- Name your first workspace. This is required: the Inbox needs a place to file notes into. A workspace is a top-level space such as Personal or Work.
- Connect an AI provider with a key, or a local Ollama. This is optional. Kajero checks the key with one short request before it stores it. See AI providers.
- Capture a thought with the global shortcut
⌥Space. This is optional. The setup waits for the capture and shows it in the Inbox with its proposed place.
Without a provider, everything except the AI features works.
Your first note
Press ⌘N to create a note in the current scope. Notes are written as blocks: type / for the slash menu, [[ to link another note, and ⌘⇧I to insert an image.
After the setup, a note called Welcome to Kajero in your workspace walks through the rest by doing it: triage, ⌘K, inline AI, note links, agents and import. It is an ordinary note. You can delete it, and Getting started in the Help menu or in ⌘K brings it back.
Where to go next
- Capture and Inbox: save a thought from any app.
- Search and questions: find a note, or ask your notes.
- Keyboard shortcuts: every key in one place.
- Privacy and your data: what is stored where.
